O’Hare International Airport is a 30 minute drive from Elgin via Interstate 90. Chicago's Midway International Airport is approximately 40 miles from Elgin. Corporate jets and other general aviation aircraft use nearby DuPage Airport (11 miles from Elgin) or Schaumburg Regional Airport (10 miles from Elgin.)

Downtown Chicago is only 38 miles away via highway, Interstate 90, or Metra Commuter Rail. Elgin is part of the Chicago Metropolitan area in the center of the Midwest and nation – never more than two times zones from anywhere in the contiguous 48 states.


Elgin has exceptional highways access to all points throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area. Interstate 90, the Golden Corridor, links Elgin with O’Hare International Airport and the Chicago business district. Three full I-90 interchanges connect to major north-south roads serving Elgin and the Fox Valley: State Routes 25 and 31 and Randall Road. The southern portion of the City is conveniently served by State Route 20, a limited access east-west highway.

There are three Metra commuter rail stations in Elgin: Big Timber Road on the City’s Westside, Chicago  Street and National Street in the City’s downtown. Twenty four commuter trains depart Elgin daily for Chicago’s Union Station and the Western suburbs.

Pace Park-N-Ride

Pace has completed two new Park-N-Ride Stations in Elgin. The stations located along I-90 at Randall Raod and SR25, Dundee Avenue.

Riders can park for fee at the Elgin Stations and board a bus for express service to Schaumburg and the Rosemont CTA Station, connecting to O'Hare International Airport or the Blue Line to Chicago.
