Elgin’s Unemployment Rate Declines Again!

The Illinois Department of Employment Security released its latest numbers last week. Elgin’s unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, dipped to 4.1% at the end of September, a 1.3% decrease from a year ago. That’s a dramatic drop from the beginning of the year when the unemployment rate was 9.1%. In September, the Labor Force was 55,622 and the number of people employed was 53,316, with unemployed at 2,306, with a 4.1% unempoyemnt rate.

Third Annual Expo Connects U-46 Academic Courses with Careers

An all-female competitive engine teardown team, healthcare demonstrations and culinary displays - and tastings - were among the many top draws at Explore 2017: A U-46 Community, Curriculum, and Career Expo at Elgin Community College. At least 2,000 students and family members attended the third annual expo Saturday, the largest crowd to date.

State Report Names School District U-46 a Bright Spot of Future Investment

The non-profit lender and public policy group IFF named School District U-46 a `Bright Spot for Future Investment,’ in a report released last week. Findings of the report will be part of a Monday IFF panel discussion in Chicago among state and education advocates and leaders, including Chief Executive Officer Tony Sanders.
